# Find a Twitter (X) user ID

> Find the numeric user ID of any X (Twitter) account from its @username, or the current username behind a user ID. Free, no sign-in.

HTML page: https://www.twittrapi.com/tools/twitter-user-id

Free tool

Enter an @username to get the account's numeric user ID, or a user ID to get the current username. The ID never changes, even when the account is renamed, which is why APIs and datasets use it.

Look up

Username → ID ID → username

The user ID and username appear here.

How it works

## How the twitter user id finder works

1. 01

Paste a username, profile link or ID

With or without @. The input is checked in your browser first.
2. 02

  Complete the captcha

It keeps the free tool for people; scripts and agents should use the API.
3. 03

  We look the account up

Our server calls `GET /user/by/username/{username}` (or `GET /user/{userId}`) with the simple format. Identical lookups are cached for 10 minutes.
4. 04

  Copy the result

ID, username and a permanent profile link that works after a rename.

## Need this at scale? Get an API key

The same lookup is one API call: $0.09 per 1,000 at the standard price, no X developer account. Convert up to 100 usernames per call with the batch endpoint.

FAQ

## Frequently asked questions

**What is a Twitter user ID?**

A number X gives every account when it is created, for example 2244994945 for @XDevelopers. Unlike the @username it never changes, so tools, APIs and datasets use it to identify accounts.

**Why do I need the user ID instead of the username?**

Usernames can be changed and then taken by someone else. Many API endpoints (followers, timelines, lists) and most datasets key accounts by ID, so storing the ID keeps your data correct after a rename.

**Can I find the username for a user ID?**

Yes: switch to ID → username. The tool returns the account's current username. You can also open x.com/i/user/<ID> in a browser, which redirects to the profile.

**Does it work for private (protected) accounts?**

Yes for the ID and username: they are public even when the posts are protected. Suspended and deactivated accounts are not found.

**Can I convert many usernames at once?**

Not with the free tool, which does a few lookups per day. The API converts up to 100 usernames per call with GET /user/usernames/to/ids.
