FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I write in bold on X (Twitter)?
X has no bold button for normal posts. Type your text here, press Copy next to the Bold line and paste it into your post. The bold letters are Unicode characters, so they look bold everywhere the post is shown.
Does it work in my bio and display name?
Yes. The styled text is plain Unicode, so it works in posts, replies, your bio, your display name and DMs. Usernames (@handles) only allow letters, digits and underscore.
Why does styled text use more characters?
Each styled letter is a character X counts as 2, so a 280-character post fits about 140 bold letters. The count next to each style shows how much of the 280 it uses.
Is styled text bad for accessibility?
It can be. Screen readers may read styled letters one by one, by their Unicode names, or skip them. Use styles for a word or a heading, not whole posts.
Does styled text hurt search?
Styled letters are different characters from normal letters, so search on X may not find a word written in bold. Keep hashtags and keywords in plain text.
Which characters change?
A to Z, a to z and, in some styles, 0 to 9. Accented letters, punctuation and emoji stay as they are. Underline and strikethrough add a line to every character.
