How it works

How the profile picture viewer works

  1. 01

    Enter the username

With or without @, or paste the profile link.

  2. 02

    We look up the profile

Our server calls GET /user/by/username/{username}?format=simple, which returns avatarUrl and bannerUrl (simple format).

  3. 03

    We pick the largest size

The size suffix (_normal, _400x400) comes off the picture's file name, and the header gets /1500x500.

  4. 04

    Open or download

The files come from pbs.twimg.com, X's image server.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I see someone's X profile picture in full size?

Enter the @username or paste the profile link and press View. The tool shows the profile picture in the size it was uploaded, not the small circle on the profile, with a button to download it.

What size is the full profile picture?

Whatever the owner uploaded, often 400x400 pixels or larger. X serves smaller copies with _normal (48 px), _bigger (73 px) or _400x400 in the file name; removing that part gives the original.

Can I download the header (banner) image?

Yes. The header is shown at 1500x500 pixels, the size X recommends for uploads and the largest it serves. Accounts without a header show a note instead.

Do the images go through your server?

No. We only look up the profile to find the image links. The images load and download in your browser straight from X's image server, pbs.twimg.com.

Does it work for protected accounts?

Yes. The profile picture and header of a protected account are public, even though its posts are not.

Why is it showing an old picture?

Lookups are cached for 10 minutes. If the account changed its picture just now, check again a little later.
