Twitter/X data in n8n and Make

Get public X data into a sheet, a Slack channel or a Telegram chat without writing a program. TwittrAPI has a community node for n8n and works in Make through the HTTP module. You do not need an X account or an X developer app.

$0.10 free credit after sign-up. One run of a search step is one API call.

n8n

n8n, step by step

The node covers users, timelines, followers, tweets, search, lists, communities and trends. Every operation is one call per page.

  1. 01

    Install the node

Install the TwittrAPI community node from n8n's settings. Self-hosted n8n in queue mode or Docker installs it manually; the setup guide covers both.

  2. 02

    Add the credential

Create a TwittrAPI credential with the key from your dashboard. Saving tests it with one normal call.

  3. 03

Build: new mentions to Google Sheets

A schedule every 15 minutes, a TwittrAPI search for your brand in the simple format, and one sheet row per tweet with time, author, text and link.

The ready-made mentions workflow remembers the newest tweet, so only new mentions reach the sheet.

  4. 04

    Export followers to CSV

The follower export workflow reads up to 20 pages of followers and writes a CSV file. Every page is one call, so 20 pages cost $0.0018 at Standard.

  5. 05

Keyword alerts in Slack or Telegram

The keyword monitor workflow searches a keyword every 10 minutes and posts new tweets to a channel. Swap the Slack node for Telegram for a Telegram alert.

  6. 06

Use it as an AI Agent tool

Attach the TwittrAPI node to an AI Agent node as a tool; the agent can then search X or read a profile when a question needs it. Self-hosted n8n needs one setting for that. More on agents: AI agents.

Errors you may see: 402 balance empty (top up, run again), 429 rate limit (turn on Retry On Fail), 401 wrong key. Turn on Continue On Fail if one bad username should not stop the run.

Make

Make, with the HTTP module

With the simple format you need no parsing functions: each tweet already has flat fields you can map straight into the next module.

  1. 01

    HTTP > Make a request

A search request with your key and the simple format.

  2. 02

    Iterator

    One bundle per tweet.

  3. 03

Google Sheets > Add a row

Map time, author, text, link, likes and retweets to columns.

  4. 04

    Only new tweets

Keep the newest tweet ID in a Data store and ask the search only for tweets after it.

Each run of the HTTP module is one API call ($0.00009 at Standard) plus your Make operations; the iterator and the sheet rows count as Make operations, not API calls.

The setup guide lists every field of the HTTP module and the Data store step.

Choosing

Which to choose

  • Recurring alerts or syncs: n8n. The node remembers state in its templates and doubles as an AI Agent tool.
  • Your team lives in Make: the HTTP module with the simple format.
  • You will write code after all: the SDKs do the same in a few lines.
  • Tracking strategy (which queries, which accounts): social listening.

FAQ

No-code questions

Do I need an X developer account?

No. n8n and Make use a TwittrAPI key (n8n also accepts a RapidAPI key). You never sign up at X's developer console.

Why does the n8n node return such large JSON?

With Output Format Raw (the default) it returns X's raw JSON, one item per page. Set Output Format to Simple and add a Split Out node on data: you get one item per tweet or user with flat fields such as text, author.username and counts.likes.

Can I post tweets from n8n or Make?

The n8n node only reads. Posting from your own account is possible with account actions over HTTP; they need your X session cookie and your own proxy.

How many runs can I afford?

A search every 15 minutes is 2,880 calls a month: $0.26 at Standard. The automation platform's own plan usually costs more than the data.

What happens when my balance runs out?

Calls return 402 and are not charged; the n8n node shows the message with a hint. Top up and run the workflow again.
